The Genesis of WallPictureApp: Solving the Sizing Struggle

We’ve all been there. You’ve captured the perfect shot, the lighting is divine, and the emotion is raw. But then comes the hard part: helping your client see that masterpiece on their wall.

For years, our founder, Milan Zarecky, as a professional photographer, focused only on the shutter click. But he soon realised that the future of photography isn’t just about the digital image, it’s about the physical experience of having that art in your hands and on your walls.

The Tedious Image-Processing Headache

Back in 2016, the original idea for WallPictureApp emerged from a very real, time-consuming frustration. Milan would often hear from his clients who firmly believed a 40 x 60 cm print would be perfectly adequate to hang above their living room sofa. To prove that this size was actually far too small for such a large space, he would sit down at his computer and manually design room mockups in an image editor.

This was never a quick task; getting the proportions absolutely right so the mockup was a realistic representation (and not just a rough guess) took up valuable time.

The A4 Paper Trick

Because there were hardly any apps on the market in 2016 that could solve this specific problem, Milan had to get creative. He used to ask his clients to take a photo of their home wall with a standard A4 sheet of paper taped to it. Using that paper as a reference, he could measure 30 cm and, for example, double it to accurately mock up a 60 cm print.

Only then could he display the final image and say, “Look, here is what a 40 x 60 cm photograph looks like,” immediately illustrating how small and insignificant the picture appeared while floating alone above a large couch. He also demonstrated the appropriate size for the photograph… the size it truly deserved!

“Seeing the joy on my clients’ faces when they see their photos perfectly displayed in their own homes—that’s the feeling that motivates me.” — Milan Zarecky

Faced with this significant professional hurdle—the lack of a simple way to show clients how their photos would look on their walls—Milan envisioned a solution. Thus, the WallPictureApp idea was born!

Building a Better Way

Milan, who happens to be an IT graduate, realised that since he understood the problem intimately, knew what the market was missing, and had the technical skills, he could build the solution himself.

He set out to create a tool that would let creators design two or three-room variants in just a minute or two. The goal was simple: deliver a visual result quickly and easily so the client could instantly imagine the artwork on their own wall. By visually proving that a 40 x 60 cm print is too small, creators could confidently guide clients toward sizes that truly make an impact, such as 90 x 60, 100 x 150, or even 120 x 180 cm. Also, considering various customs across different countries, offering the choice to use centimetres (cm) or inches (in).

Milan built WallPictureApp not just for himself, but to help fellow colleagues around the world thrive in their businesses and ensure their clients end up with beautifully decorated walls.

Bringing Art to Life

Milan has consistently emphasised the app’s core purpose: bringing art to life. This commitment to visual clarity remains central to our mission today.
